Engineered Wood Products

Engineered wood products are made with wood fiber and high-strength adhesives in order to produce a material that is both strong and inexpensive. Some of our engineered wood products are laminated with natural wood to provide a product that's both beautiful and tough.

Cedar Uncoated Wood Laminate. This material has a layer of aromatic cedar on either side of a high-density fiberboard core. The cedar is sanded smooth, but is otherwise in its natural state (no clear coat or lacquer).

Birch Uncoated Wood Laminate. This material has a layer of birch on either side of a high-density fiberboard core. The birch is sanded smooth, but is otherwise in its natural state (no clear coat or lacquer).

Maple Wood Laminate with Clear Coat. This material has a layer of maple on either side of a high-density fiberboard core. The maple is sanded smooth, and has a clear coat to provide a shinier appearance and to protect the wood.

Walnut Wood Laminate with Clear Coat. This material has a layer of dark walnut on either side of a high-density fiberboard core. The walnut is sanded smooth, and has a clear coat to provide a shinier appearance and to protect the wood.

Black Wood Laminate. This material has a layer of hard semi-gloss synthetic black material either side of a high-density fiberboard core.

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). An economical, strong, engineered wood product.

Hardboard. An economical, strong, engineered wood product. Darker, slightly harder, and denser than MDF, it is often perforated and sold as "pegboard".

Natural Wood

This is wood that has been cut from a tree and sanded smooth on both sides before laser machining. Some of our stock may be made from wood that has been glued edge-to-edge to make a wider piece of stock material.

Cherry. A beautiful decorative wood, this hardwood has a slightly wider grain than red oak.
Natural Wood Info.

Poplar. This is a fast-growing tree with light colored wood. The wood is fairly soft and quite pliable, making it good for projects where the wood must be formed into a curved shape.
Natural Wood Info.

Red Oak. This strong wood is harder and denser than cherry, with a finer grain.

What is the thickest wood laminate you can cut? Where are you physically
located? I am trying to estimate my logistical costs of shipping material to you
for cutting.

Thanks

We can cut just about any thickness on the waterjet.

We typically ship from
Wisconsin or Georgia. E-mail info@bigbluesaw.com for details.

HI,

I am looking for a laser cutting service that can cut and engrave 3/4"
or 1/2" plywood. If you are able to provide this service, could I get a
rough idea of the range of cost associated with cutting parts out of a single
3/4 or 1/2" sheet of ply? Otherwise perhaps you could provide an idea of the
cost per linear foot of travel or another way to estimate my
project?

thanks

Adam

We would typically waterjet cut plywood of that thickness.

You can use our
online quoting system to get an idea of the price. Just choose a similar
material with your design, like, say, one of our wood laminates. Then, when
you're ready to get an exact quote, e-mail info@bigbluesaw.com for details.
Blazer  - Hardboard in .5" thickness?   |2012-05-03 01:49:04
I have a project which requires .5" thickness. I would prefer hardboard if
that is available? If not, what other woods or tough plastics are available in
that thickness?

E-mail info@bigbluesaw.com with the details of your project, and we can make
recommendations.
