Big Blue Saw

Blog

Big Blue Saw is now a Xometry company.

When I started Big Blue Saw in 2005, my goal was to create the easiest way to order custom parts online. What started in my bedroom as a side gig to get custom parts for my fighting robots eventually grew into a business with 7 employees and a shop full of waterjets and other equipment.

When Randy Altschuler reached out to me earlier this year to suggest a merger between Big Blue Saw and Xometry, the world's leading digital manufacturing marketplace, I knew it was the right time. The Big Blue Saw team had taken the company just about as far as we could without a larger partner, and I had long admired Xometry’s online quoting and wide variety of services. Xometry’s mission is much the same as Big Blue Saw’s: to provide access to global manufacturing capacity.

Big Blue Saw only advanced as far as it did because of you, our creative and dedicated customers. Here are the benefits that our acquisition by Xometry is bringing to you:

  • First, Big Blue Saw can provide even better laser and water jet cutting services as part of the Xometry family. Xometry’s applications engineering expertise, ability to secure materials and tooling, and supply chain expertise will help you to get better parts faster and cheaper.

  • Second, Xometry is the one-stop shop for all of your manufacturing needs. Xometry provides industry-leading CNC machining, 3D printing, and injection molding services in addition to sheet metal services of all types. I encourage you to visit their site and get an instant quote.

Along the way there have been hard times both for both me and for the rest of the team at Big Blue Saw. More than once I considered quitting and going back to computer consulting or stocking comic books. We persevered through those times and were looking at a fantastic 2021 when Xometry came along to propose an even brighter future.

Thank you once again for your continued support over the years, and I hope you will stay with us as we continue to grow as part of the Xometry team. I couldn't be more excited about the next phase of our journey.

If you have questions, please e-mail me anytime.

Sincerely,

Simon Arthur, CEO Big Blue Saw, a Xometry company
