Here's a look at some of the wonderful things that have been created with Big Blue Saw.
Here's a look at some of the wonderful things that have been created with Big Blue Saw.

Gearbox
Big Blue Saw created a custom gearbox for Orca, a robot in the Robot Fighting League. The gearbox started as a CAD file in DXF format.

The parts were waterjet cut by Big Blue Saw from 0.25 inch thick aluminum 6061 alloy.

Here's a closeup of one of the parts, with a penny for scale.

With the addition of shafts, motors, and other hardware, a mighty gearbox was created. The large gear was also waterjet cut from a thicker aluminum stock.

Nixie clock
This Nixie (neon tube) clock was created by Eric Davis, one of Big Blue Saw's customers. The front and back plates are pieces of clear polycarbonate plastic cut by Big Blue Saw. He wrote to say "the tube sockets have an unusual shape that I would have had great difficulties duplicating in the material."

RAZR phone stand
The Make Magazine Blog wanted us to create something that would show off the capabilities of Big Blue Saw. For the article, we made a stand for the Motorola RAZR phone. It was cut as a single flat part.

The pieces were separated with a sharp knife and assembled. We ended up with a stand that can tilt to point the camera at its target.
